Three-time Grand Prix winner Johnny Herbert and former Williams F1 CEO Alex Burns unveiled UWR’s new-look Praga R1 in March 2022.
The car was made possible by £200,000 from Highclear Investments, founded by Walter and Alexa Gleeson, whose stated aims included promoting engineering careers for women and students from Black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds, and improving accessibility in motorsport.
Weeks later, UWR became the only university team on the inaugural Praga Cup grid.
