The story.
Alongside professional racing, UWR students design and build their own single-seaters for IMechE Formula Student at Silverstone, under the “Racing Wolves” banner. The project teaches design to regulations, manufacturing, bills of materials, costing and project management — the full life-cycle of a race car.

Learning by building
The 2015 car completed every dynamic event; the 2016 car, number 110, was narrower and refined using lessons from year one. Racecar Engineering profiled the team that summer.
Honest lessons
Wolf 4 failed scrutineering in 2018. Wolf 5 came back in 2019 to finish 54th of 81 Class 1 entries with a joint-18th acceleration time of 4.89s, before a crash in endurance. Ross Brawn met the team at Silverstone.
Wolf VII
Students working on the 2022 Wolf VII project describe designing to the rulebook, sourcing and costing parts, and managing a team — with suppliers including the Engineering Integrity Society, HCi Systems, MyWorkWear, LaserProcess and Evo3D.
